We invite sixteen female student-athletes of the NorCal League in grades 9th – 12th to come and explore trails in Bear Valley in the beautiful Sierra Mountains through our NorCal GRiT Bikepacking Adventure from August 7th – 10th, 2022. Thanks to NICA and Blackburn, we will supply a loaner fleet of bike packing bags so each athlete will have access to her own bikepacking bags, for the trip. We will spend three days and two nights bike-packing in the beautiful Sierra Mountains.
Riders will learn how to pack their bags to make for a successful bike packing trip at the start of camp and then will head out for their first day bikepacking to a predetermined location for camping. Day two will be a day of adventure and activities without gear loaded bikes and a second night of camping in the same location as the first; Day three will be spent trekking back to a predetermined pick-up location. Student-athletes must be comfortable riding with added weight on intermediate trails, and must also be comfortable camping solo in their own tent or bivvy.
This will be an adventurous, educational, and fun experience that shouldn’t be missed! It’s our hope that by teaching student-athletes the tools to safely embark on a bikepacking trip, we will inspire them to continue to explore beyond the NorCal League.
We recommend that campers carpool to the starting location. If carpooling, legal guardians will need to contact Hailey Childress, Program Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org to inform her of carpool plans and to give consent for other drivers to drop off and pick up their student-athletes.
Max capacity for campers is 16
- NICA and Blackburn will be supplying a fleet of bags for this camp. Each rider will have two bags that will be attached to their bikes to carry supplies. We recommend a Camelbak backpack or a standard backpack for additional storage.
Transportation: No vehicle transportation will occur on the route.
