Potential Camps

Have an idea for a camp we should host? Know a cool spot that would be great for mountain biking? Let us know!

Winter Beginner Camps

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t ride your bike!

Participants will learn mountain bike basics ranging from how to climb, how to descend, cornering in switchbacks, proper body balancing on their bikes, and many other helpful riding skills. All of these camps will be held at our friend’s private property in Petaluma, which means we’ll have camping and use of the sweet trails all to ourselves!

These camps are a great way for beginner riders of to improve their skills, hang out with riders from other schools, and have a good time riding bikes! Hosted by NorCal League staff, guest skills instructors, and top-notch League coaches, these camps are a great way to kick off the 2017 season.

Winter Beginner Camp – MIDDLE SCHOOLERS and PARENTS

Middle School Camp Cancelled due to bad weather

Note: We’ve had a huge demand for more middle school participation in our league, so we’ve decided to offer these younger riders (and their parents!) a chance to experience what we’re about. This clinic is two-fold; one part is to educate middle school riders the basics of mountain biking, and the other is to teach parents the same things with emphasis on how to teach mountain biking to teens. This camp is co-ed.

Mendocino Development Camp

When: June 12-16, 2017
Where: Mendocino Woodlands Camp

There is something pretty dang special about the big redwood forests and the loamy single track in Mendocino. We’ve had camps up here for 5 years now, and are excited to share this special shreddy spot with riders in the NorCal League again in 2017. Participants will not only leave with more confident bike handling skills, but they’ll come home with that campfire scent on their cuff and at least a few new friends. Registration will open in March 2017.

SBTS Camp

When: June 25-30, 2017
Where: Feather River Camp, Quincy CA
Flyer: coming soon

We’ve teamed up with Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship to create a unique, collaborative high school mountain biking and trail building summer camp. Student-athletes will split their time between learning professional mountain bike trail building technique and riding their bikes in some of the state’s most spectacular and rugged terrain. This exciting new camp will be held at the iconic Oakland Feather River Camp nestled in the Sierras in the beautiful mountain hamlet of Quincy, CA.  In addition to trail building and bike riding, campers will enjoy tent cabin accommodations, nutritious meals in the main dining hall, swimming in Spanish Creek, campfires, and an amazing bonus of receiving college credit from Feather River College! Camp will be limited to 25 people. Registration will open in March 2017.

Mt. Tam Ride and Campout

When: TBD
Where: Marin, CA
Flyer: coming soon

We invite the female student-athletes of the NorCal League to come and explore the ridges around Mount Tamalapais with us this fall. Riders will get in a solid dirt ride that will navigate us from the Marin Headlands, over and around Mt. Tam, and down to the glittery Pacific waters as we nestle into Bolinas for the evening. This ride won’t be that technical, but is sure is hefty. With 4k feet climbing in the 25mi route, we expect those that sign up to be fit enough to complete it. We’ll all ride together but will forgo outside support. Our end point is Audubon Canyon Ranch in Bolinas, and, once we’re done with our evening activities, riders will be able to camp outside under apple trees or sleep in a wooden shelter with open windows and cots.

Registration opens March 2017. Email Heather with any questions (hp@norcalmtb.org).

NorCal Girls Fun Ride

When: TBD
Where: Marin, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, and San Francisco
Flyer: coming soon

The fourth annual NorCal Girls Fun Ride will be back again in 2017, in 4 locations: Santa Cruz, Marin, Sacramento, and San Francisco. Girls 13-18 years old, come join us for a fun, social mountain bike ride, followed by delicious lunch and great prizes. All girls are welcome on this no drop ride, which is led by some of NorCal’s finest female coaches.

Other Camps

There are many hidden gems in Northern California that we’d love to explore for our camps and clinics, and we welcome any insight you may have. Things we look for at potential camp/clinic spaces are:

– Camping area: Flat, grass field with fire pit and picnic tables please!

– Trails: For the overnight camps, we don’t need a ton of trail, but the week-long ones (like we do in Mendocino and Quincy) need a few more miles with mixed terrain so that riders of varying ability can play around on what suits their abilities.

– Main shelter or dining area: Ideally there would be a kitchen, but we can make it work without one. Having some shelter space from the cold, rain, and bugs is a bonus!

If you have anything you think might fit the bill, send an email to Vanessa (vanessa@norcalmtb.org)
