What is Give it a Go?

In support of our mission to get more kids on bikes and emphasize our values of equity and inclusivity, in November of 2024 we launched the NorCal League Give it a Go (formerly Try it Out) program. We are proud to offer this program thanks to the incredible support of Santa Cruz PayDirt and Mike’s Bikes. 

Why Give it a Go?

This program aims to reduce the barrier to mountain biking by giving student-athletes a chance to Give it a Go without buying a bike and other required gear, and helping teams with recruitment. Head Coaches or Team Directors organize the events in their community. Reach out to your local team to get an event on the calendar. 

How it Works 

Head Coaches or Team Directors submit a request to borrow the Give it a Go trailer with a fleet of 10 mountain bikes and helmets of various sizes. Teams are encouraged to use these events to raise awareness about the team, and find new riders who might be interested in joining. Rides are led by trained, certified, insured and background checked NICA coaches who are registered with the NorCal League. Parents, school administrators and potential local team supporters are encouraged to attend the event and check out what the team and the NorCal League has to offer. 

Prospective student-athletes will be able to sign up for a ride in their area once the local team has set up registration. Stay tuned for more information on registration. Once registered, student-athletes will receive an email confirmation with additional details. We encourage participants to connect with the host team to learn more about joining the team. 

How to Request the Trailer

Only Head Coaches or Team Directors can request the Try It Out Trailer. To do so, please see the calendar below for availability. Then submit your request here or with the link below. Please keep in mind you can only book the trailer for three days at a time.
